The day before the Emerald City Comicon (Thursday) was mostly spent driving from home (Moscow, ID) to Seattle. On the way, my wife & I took a short detour to drive through the hamlet of Roslyn, WA, the former shooting location of one of my favorite shows from the 90s, Northern Exposure. The doctor’s office still has “Dr. Joel Fleischman” written on the window, though it’s now some store. The building that once housed a NE gift shop is now empty, though one of the rooms is still the KBHR radio station broadcast booth as it was in the show.

After we arrived in Seattle and made it (finally!) to our hotel (I really dislike driving downtown during rush hour), we went downstairs for dinner at the Elephant and Castle for some Americanized English pub fair. The food was ok, but the beer was fantastic! I started with an ale/cider hybrid (they called it a Snakebite, but that same named beer I had in an Irish pub in Oregon made it with Guinness and cider–both we’re good), then I had a Smithwick’s. Mmm. Best of all, I was with my beautiful wife. It was a great pre-con day!
