The Gutters: New Year’s Edition

How was your 2015? I take this opportunity to talk about my 2015, especially in regards to the podcast, and why I haven’t been podcasting enough the last few months. I also talk a bit about what’s to come in 2016 (I hope!).

2015 in Review

2015 has come and gone, and as it is customary to reflect upon the past year, I present here some stats that I find interesting about my little endeavor that is Longbox Review.

First (as always), the comics! I purchased 635 new issues/trades throughout the year (which is 338 fewer issues compared to 2014). That averaged out to nearly 53 issues per month and 12 per week. There were three weeks where I got 17 issues (in 2014, there was one week when I purchased 34 issues). Limited series clocked in at 64 titles for the year (wow!), and I bought 31 new trade collections/OGNs. I also bought 10 one-shot issues. The rest are the ongoing series, where I bought issues from 80 different titles for the year. I don’t have exact numbers (again, something I’ll need to work on for 2016), but I bought around 200 back issues and trades throughout the year.

Next, the podcast! In 2015, I released 20 episodes total, including several The Gutters episodes. That’s not nearly the amount I want to release in a year (at least 24 episodes is my goal, plus however many The Gutters episodes that I want to do). Did someone say new year’s resolution? ;) Regardless, there were 8481 downloads among the 109+ episodes (there a few files that are in the feed that I don’t count as proper episodes). March was the busiest month with 1130 downloads, and June 30 saw the most downloads in a day. The most downloaded episode of the year was Episode 80: Favorites of 2014, Part 1, followed very closely by Episode 79: Valentine’s Special (by only three fewer downloads!). That kind of surprised me, by the way. Finally, I love that people in 50+ countries have listened to show.

As far as the videos, I had released only nine videos, but had 551 overall views throughout the year, with the 2014 review video getting the most views and a video I made in 2013 getting the number two spot. Huh.

And this is what WordPress had to tell me about the blog:

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2015 annual report for this blog. Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 9,700 times in 2015. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 4 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

As always, thank you for listening, watching, reading, and interacting. Have a great 2016!
