New Comics Wednesday (2/5/20)

Happy New Comics Wednesday!

Go here for a complete list of comics releasing this week.

My comics

  • DREAMING #18 – Awesome! Another Marguerite Sauvage drawn issue!
  • JUSTICE LEAGUE #40 – Looking forward to reading Venditti’s take on the Justice League.
  • MARTIAN MANHUNTER #12 – The end of the maxi-series. I have loved this mostly for the Riley Rosmo art.
  • STAR TREK YEAR FIVE TP VOL 01 ODYSSEYS END – Pick of the week – Despite the fact that Mike Johnson was replaced as the writer of IDW’s Star Trek comics (and from I read, unceremoniously), I’m looking forward to reading some TOS adventures.
  • MARKED #4

Other comics

  • DC CRIMES OF PASSION #1 – This is the first or second holiday themed special from DC that I didn’t order. I usually find one or two gems in these specials, not to mention new talent sometimes, but the last few from last year just didn’t do it for me.
  • ADLER #1 – I’m always interested in Sherlock Holmes stories and the spotlight is on Irene Adler, who, in some interpretations of the mythos is the superior intellect. I’m curious how this comic depicts the character.
  • WHY DID WE TRUST HIM TP – Shannon Wheeler is a singular wit and deserves some of your attention. This book is “a wide-ranging collection of single-panel comics. Relationships, social norms, language, animals, life and death are all targets of his elegant absurdity.”
  • X-MEN + FANTASTIC FOUR – I would normally ignore a title like this, but Chip Zdarsky is writing it, so who knows? It might be good.

Best comic I read recently

PEARL v2 by Brian Michael Bendis, Michael Gaydos, Joshua Reed, Dave Sharpe, Kevin Geiger, Curtis King Jr., Exotik Alek, and Diego Martin

pearl 8

This is such a gorgeous book: the line art, the colors, the tattoos, the backgrounds, and the alternate covers, like the Tula Lotay cover from issue 8 I’m spotlighting for you, are just top notch. The characters and situation (plot) are a bit simplistic and the dialog is peak Bendis, but still quite enjoyable. Definitely come for the fantastic art.

What are you getting this week?
