RandoMonday: Aquaman #8

Here’s a comic chosen at random from my collection.

Aquaman (2008) #8 by Geoff Johns (writer), Ivan Reis (penciller), Joe Prado & Ivan Reis (inkers), Rod Reis (colorist), Nick J. Napolitano (letterer), Sean Mackiewicz (asst. editor), Pat McCallum (editor), and Ivan Reis, Joe Prado, & Rod Reis (cover)

This is part two of “The Others” storyline, which is the coolest new set of characters introduced in the New 52 DCU. They were so cool that DC even launched Aquaman and the Others! Think about that for a second: DC published two Aquaman titles at the same time. TWO! Amazing. Anyway, the issue is mostly flashback to show us a younger, and much more driven, Aquaman, and how he interacts with this band of adventurers. In the present storyline, Aquaman is investigating the death of one the Others. What is the most interesting aspect of this story, and this title while Geoff Johns was writing it, is Mera. She is supportive of her husband, but she also doesn’t just stand around waiting for him to return–she takes charge and demands information from one of the supporting characters. I loved the issues that Johns wrote, and the Reis/Prado/Reis art is just beautiful, superhero comic book art–and I mean that in the best possible sense.
