Happy New Comics Wednesday! Here are the comics that I’ll be getting from this week, plus some San Diego Comic-Con news.
New Comics this week
- ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN #15
- AQUAMAN ANNUAL #2
- AVENGERS #33
- BATMAN ETERNAL #17
- BODIES #1: the premise of a murder mystery across decades is what hooked me.
- DC COMICS PRESENTS: BATMAN ADVENTURES #1
- DETECTIVE COMICS ANNUAL #3
- EAST OF WEST #14
- FATALE #24: Sigh. The final issue. Fortunately, there’s already a new Brubaker/Phillips project coming out very soon.
- HAWKEYE #19: Wait, this book is still around? :) I’ve missed it sooo much!
- JUSTICE LEAGUE #32
- MANHATTAN PROJECTS #22: Possibly my final issue.
- NEW 52 FUTURES END #13
- NEW AVENGERS #21
- SANDMAN OVERTURE #3: Wait, this book is still around? ;) I may have to reread the first two.
- SINESTRO #4
- TEN GRAND #10
- VERTIGO QUARTERLY #1 MAGENTA: the next quarterly issue–I hope this one is a little better than the last issue.
- WAKE #10: The end of this series. I wasn’t all that impressed by the story, but I enjoyed the art.

San Diego Comic-Con News
Here are some news bits coming out of the 2014 Comic-Con International in San Diego that caught my eye.
First up, and possibly most important, is that comiXology is offering DRM-free backup files of participating select titles. If the major companies can be persuaded to follow suit, I may become more of a digital reader. However, most of my books that are currently available to be backed up aren’t really worth it to me. But this can only get better and bigger, right? Here’s hoping.
Grant Morrison conceived of the Multiversity map and it’s interesting. I cannot wait to see how all of this ties together!
Warner Bros. released the first look at Gal Godot in her Wonder Woman suit/armor/outfit, and she looks great! I tweeted about the lack of color, but others pointed out that what we’re seeing is probably not the way the suit actually looks in the film. And I love the fact that she’s got the short sword. C’mon! She’s an Amazon warrior! When peace fails, she may have to kick ass. :)
Forget all those other DC properties being brought to the small screen, I’m most excited for Constantine, and the latest trailer is AWESOME! October 24 is too far away….
Guardians of the Galaxy hasn’t even debuted yet, but Marvel Studios has announced a release date for the sequel, and an animated series is on the way. What?! What is it about this franchise that has Marvel doubling (tripling?) down on it? I guess I’ll just have to watch the movie and find out.
The one comic book related gem that has me excited was the announcement that Spider-Woman will be getting another shot at an ongoing (I’m still bitter over the Bendis/Maleev series getting cut short–what a great premise that was) with writer Dennis Hopeless and artist Greg Land. Yes, it’s tied to the Spider-Verse event, but I don’t care because I get a Spider-Woman series!
Finally, but certainly not least, the 2014 Eisner winners were announced. I’m ashamed to say that I have not read many of the nominees, let alone the winners, but congrats to all of those whose talent has been recognized!
