New Comics Wednesday 5/7/14

Happy New Comics Wednesday! Here are the comics that I’ll be getting from this week, plus a couple other new releases, and a sad news item.

New Comics this week

  • ALEX + ADA #6
  • AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #1.1: I’m curious what Dan Slott is going to do with retelling Spider-Man’s origin in this five-part “mini”.
  • ANGEL AND FAITH S10 #2
  • AQUAMAN AND THE OTHERS #2
  • ARCHER & ARMSTRONG #20
  • ASTRO CITY #12
  • BATMAN: ETERNAL #5
  • BATMAN/SUPERMAN #10
  • BLACK WIDOW #6: My last issue. It’s been an ok spy comic (Velvet is WAAAYYY better), but it just doesn’t read like a Black Widow as spy comic.
  • DETECTIVE COMICS #31
  • EARTH 2 #23
  • FAIREST #26
  • FATALE #22
  • GREEN LANTERN #31
  • IRON FIST: LIVING WEAPON #2
  • JUSTICE LEAGUE 3000 #6
  • LOKI: AGENT OF ASGARD #4
  • MOON KNIGHT #3
  • NEW 52 FUTURES END #1: I am actually looking forward to this.
  • ORIGINAL SIN #1: And also this. I read #0 and enjoyed it. I hope that the rest of the series holds up as well.
  • REVIVAL #20
  • SIXTH GUN #40
  • WAKE #8

Go here for a complete list of comics releasing this week. See the covers of the comics listed above.

Also Released This Week

  • I KILL GIANTS FIFTH ANNIV. ED TP: This is one of the best graphic novels I’ve read in the last few years. If you haven’t read this, do yourself a favor.
  • MILES MORALES: ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #1: I kind of wished I had ordered this.

News

The only thing worth mentioning this week is the passing last Friday, due to cancer, of Jaime D of the Comic Geek Speak podcast. Given my own family history with cancer (I’ve lost many members of my family to one cancer or another, including my mother and little sister), this saddened me immensely. I never had the opportunity to meet, let alone talk to, Jaime, but I felt like I knew him well, and that we shared some common interests and insights regarding comics. It’s funny how close you feel to people whom you have never met because you listen to them talk about comics and their personal lives week after week for the last 8 years. I feel for his family and friends for having lost someone special in their lives. If you are a listener of the Comic Geek Speak show (even a lapsed listener), and you haven’t already, listen to the Geeks’ salute to their friend in episode 1807. To you fellow listeners, that final message that was played was a real tear jerker, yeah? RIP Shiznit Pimp–you will be missed.
