New Comics Wednesday 4/2/14

Happy New Comics Wednesday! Here are the comics that I’ll be getting from this week, a few other new releases, plus some news.

New Comics this week

  • ACTION COMICS #30
  • ANGEL AND FAITH SEASON 10 #1: Here’s hoping the next “season” of Angel and Faithis as good as the previous (you can listen to what I had to say about last season’s dynamic duo in podcast episode 66).
  • AQUAMAN AND THE OTHERS #1: Can the comic book universe actually handle TWO Aquaman monthlies?!
  • ARCHER & ARMSTRONG #19
  • BLACK SCIENCE #5
  • BLACK WIDOW #5
  • BLEEDING COOL MAGAZINE #10
  • DETECTIVE COMICS #30: I heard such great things about the Buccellato/Manapul team on Flash, so when DC announced they were moving over to Detective, I had to see what they could do with the Dark Knight.
  • EARTH 2 #22
  • FAIREST #25
  • GREEN LANTERN #30
  • GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY TP VOL 01: I’ve heard good things about this series, so I wanted to check it out.
  • LOKI: AGENT OF ASGARD #3
  • MARVEL KNIGHTS: SPIDER-MAN TP: I bought this solely on the recommendation of podcast cohost Travis, who said the art is “out there”.
  • MOON KNIGHT #2
  • RACHEL RISING #24
  • REVIVAL #19

Go here for a complete list of comics releasing this week.

Also Released This Week

  • 1 FOR $1 ITTY BITTY HELLBOY #1: I’m not really into the Lil’ thing (unless it’s Tiny Titans), but I know there are those of you out there. Also, it seems strange to me that Dark Horse is putting out this $1 reprint for a limited series that ended not that long ago. If the trade was coming out soon, this would make sense, however.
  • SUPERMAN: RED SON TP NEW EDITION: This trade was surprisingly good, especially considering that it was Mark Millar that wrote it. Go read it and judge for yourself.
  • TRILLIUM #8: Not getting this, but I’m really curious how it ends. Let me know, yeah?
  • STAR TREK GOLD KEY ARCHIVES HC VOL 01: I’m so tempted to get this because it’s Star Trek, but having read a few of these Gold Key issues, I can’t be bothered.
  • ALEX + ADA #2-4 get 2nd printings, so now’s your chance to get caught up on this great series.
  • INHUMAN #1: I preordered this, but then it was resolicited and I decided to pass on it.
  • ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #200: I saw a person on Twitter telling Brian Michael Bendis that #200 brought a tear to his or her eye.
  • CALIBAN #1: Garth Ennis in a sci-fi romp? If I hear good things, I might pick up the trade.

News

  • Amazing Spider-Man #1 has passed the 500K mark for initial orders. Is anyone really surprised? (Yes, I ordered it, too.)
  • I wasn’t all that excited about Justice League United until I heard Jeff Lemire talking about the series and the new character, Equinox, at Emerald City Comicon.
  • Also learned at ECCC was that July 23 is Batman Day, whatever that means exactly. Scott Snyder quipped that every day was Batman Day.
  • In between celebrity talks in the ECCC Main Hall, the trailer to Amazing Spider-Man 2 kept playing, and I have to admit, I am excited to see this movie now. Are you listening Marvel? That’s how you do a trailer *cough*GotG trailer sucks*cough*.
  • Finally, enjoy this mashup of Les Miz and Wolverine, as sung by Hugh Jackman:

Detective Comics #30 and Inhuman #1 just for me this week but will be picking up my comics in two weeks. Gotta steer clear of spoilers!

Aquaman and the Others and Moonknight #2 + the reprinting of #1 later this month were very tempting to pick up but I’m cutting down and slowly transitioning to trades only plus a few single issues plan to save cash.

    Shame about skipping Inhuman #1.

Let me know how you liked Inhuman–I can be persuaded! :)
