New Comics Wednesday 2/12/14

Happy New Comics Wednesday! Here are the comics that I’ll be getting from this week (there are a lot of good ones too!), a few observations, along with some recent news bits.

My favorite cover from this week: Astro City #9.

New Comics this week

  • ASTRO CITY #9
  • BATMAN #28
  • COFFIN HILL #5
  • JUSTICE LEAGUE 3000 #3
  • JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #12
  • NIGHTWING #28: Two more issues after this, and no more Nightwing series. What are they doing with Dick Grayson post-Forever Evil?!
  • ROYALS: MASTERS OF WAR #1: This intriguing alternate history superhero book is something I’ve looked forward to reading.
  • SUPERMAN/WONDER WOMAN #5
  • FATALE #20
  • TEN GRAND #7: Is it me, or did this book lose a bunch of energy when Ben Templesmith left it?
  • ALL-NEW X-MEN #23
  • AVENGERS #26
  • SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN #27
  • THOR: GOD OF THUNDER #19
  • BUNKER #1: Really looking forward to reading this. The solicitation made it sound pretty darn good.
  • LETTER 44 #4
  • RACHEL RISING #23: We’re quickly reaching the end of the first arc.
  • SIXTH GUN #38
  • UNCANNY #6: Yay! This is still one of my new favorite books.

Observations

  • INVISIBLES HC BOOK 01 DELUXE EDITION: I have the first two tpbs, and am looking forward to reading this series.
  • LEGION OF SUPERHEROES: GREAT DARKNESS SAGA TP: I’ve always wanted this in a trade. Now you can too.
  • SPACEMAN TP: I heard it’s good. Anyone else?
  • VILLAINS MONTH 3D MOTION COMPLETE SET: Did anyone actually preorder this?
  • MLP FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC 100 PENNY PRESS #1: In case you missed the first print run.
  • SHE-HULK #1: Some people seem really excited to read this.

News

  • AMC will be adding another comic adaptation to its line up with Preacher by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon. I never got into this series (I bought the first few issues–I wonder how much #! will be soon?), but I know it’s a favorite to many out there in the comic book community.
  • The voice of Jarvis will now be seen as the Vision in the Avengers sequel. Read how the Vision can solve the Robert Downey Jr. problem.
  • Ben McKenzie was cast as James Gordon in Fox’s Gotham. Is anyone else tired of all these tv and movie casting announcements? I don’t even care to watch this anymore.
  • Guardians of the Galaxy hasn’t even debuted in theatres, but already there’s talk of a sequel? I know we comic book fans hunger for more and more validation, I mean, big screen entertainment based on our favorite characters, but come on.
  • Finally, Bergen Street Comics announced that it would only supply Big 2 comics via subscription only. The co-owner stated he wanted to “move away from double shipping, editorially driven, artist-swapping, inconsistent, tied into events/gimmicks comics”. What do you think of this move?
