This was one if those series that seemed to come out of nowhere. It was not set in the DC universe and not published under an imprint. It ran for 12 issues, and we got a complete story, but a set up that could be expanded upon in a future series, though I doubt that will happen any time soon considering the New 52 initiative.
This first issue sets up the superhero character, Alpha One, but the focus of the story wasn’t about that character. Instead, we follow a young man, Gabriel Cole, once saved as a boy by Alpha One, who is thrust into the role of liaison between the costumed hero and the paramilitary organization (Section Omega) that supports him. We also meet his girlfriend, Janet, who plays a larger role later in the story, as well as (briefly) Gabriel’s predecessor. The issue ends on a seemingly ominous note with Alpha One being shown as maybe listening in on Gabriel’s conversation with Janet in a bar, or it’s just a pull-back shot (hint: it’s both).
Overall, I really enjoyed this maxi-series. If you can pick this up, especially in trade, you should.
Loved that series!! Wish it had been more issues.

It definitely needs a sequel. I wish the creative team would take it to Dark Horse or Boom.
