Continuing my catch-up of comics I’ve read.
Blackest Night: Titans #2: What a creepy cover this has. Creepier still is when Donna’s baby takes a big bite! But I got this book because Dove is in it and there are some good panels showing off her doveness. :) I still dig how in Black Lantern vision, she’s all white and the ring can’t identify what she is feeling. I hate that they put the Hawk and Dove team back together just to rip them apart (regardless of how annoying the new Hawk is, but I blame the writers and DC for not giving her more time to develop). I’ve said it before and will say it again: DC give me a Hawk and Dove series. Now! Great splash page at the end when Garth and other dead Titans show up (poor, dead Garth…). I liked this second issue tie-in more than the Superman one, and that surprised me.
Green Lantern #46: Blackest Night is everywhere, but that’s ok because it’s good. There’s lots of wonderful Sinestro/Hal Jordan interplay (and how it must be killing them both, especially Sinestro, to have to work together to defeat the Blackest Lantern threat), and two other cool things in this issue. One is that the heart of the violet power battery is ripped out: Khufu and Chay-Ara of Earth have risen as Black Lanterns! The other is the fight between Sinestro and Mongul for control of the Sinestro Corps. Good stuff.
Justice League of America 80-Page Giant #1: I used to love those JL stories where they would face a threat that required the team to split up. This time it’s also a time-travel story that made little sense to me. Really, the only interesting thing about this was the reveal that Snapper Carr was (ahem) dating Cheetah (what would Wonder Woman think?).
Justice Society of America #31: Finally, Wildcat gets a beat down! Unfortunately, it’s not permanent enough, nor long enough. :) I really feel for the All-American Kid. He gets possessed, nearly kills Mr. Terrific, and then has to defend himself against clear video evidence that he did it. Could you imagine being in that position? Especially when all he wants to do is be a hero and join the JSA. At the end of the issue, however, Mr. Terrific is dead. Too bad. I liked this version of the character, though I’m sure Blackest Night will soon play a part in this. However, since Geoff Johns left this book, it hasn’t kept my interest all that much. I’ll probably soon drop this one, depending on how the upcoming team split goes.
